The Chiefs finally beat the Bills at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, with a final score of 32-29. They will advance to Super Bowl LIX at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday, February 9, and will play the Philadelphia Eagles after their victory over the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship game earlier on Sunday.
Before the playoffs, the Chiefs were ranked No. 1 in the AFC for the 2024-2025 NFL season, with the Bills following behind them at No. 2. During the postseason, the Chiefs defeated the Houston Texans on January 18 to advance. in the championship game after receiving a bye week. The Bills, meanwhile, defeated the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens on January 12 and January 19, respectively, to earn a spot in the championship game against the Chiefs.
Patrick Mahomes again Josh Allen have been rivals since becoming quarterbacks in 2018 for the Chiefs and Bills, respectively. Throughout their professional careers, the two have met five times in the regular season, with Allen, 28, outscoring Mahomes, 29, four to one. However, in the playoffs, Allen has yet to beat Mahomes, with an 0-3 record before Sunday’s game. The Chiefs have beaten the Bills in the 2021 AFC Championship Game and the 2022 and 2024 Divisional playoff games.
Although Allen has not been able to enter the Super Bowl with the Bills, Mahomes has won three titles with the Chiefs. After his first victory in 2020, Mahomes became a back-to-back Super Bowl champion when he defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023 and the San Francisco 49ers in 2024.
Since Super Bowl LVIII last February, the Chiefs have been talking about their desire to get three points, which would make them the first team in NFL history to win three titles in a row.
“Next year in New Orleans, we’re going to do it again,” Mahomes said on the “Impulsive With Logan Paul” podcast in May 2024. “I’m putting it on the table. We will do it again. I’m telling you now.”
As for Allen, he emphasized his dream of a Super Bowl in 2024 at a press conference, telling reporters of his plans for this season, “There’s one job to do and that’s to win the Super Bowl.”
