A judicial commission constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government visited Sambhal on Tuesday to inspect the riot-affected areas during the Shahi Jama Masjid poll on November 24 last year and record witness statements.
The Commission, which was formed on December 1 last year, also visited these areas, including the Shahi Jama Masjid area, where the violence took place.
The team was accompanied by District Magistrate Rajender Pensiya, Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Vishnoi, and Moradabad Police DIG Muniraj G.
The team, led by members of the Commission, conducted a thorough investigation that lasted more than an hour. Following this, they moved to the PWD guest house on Chandausi Road in Sambhal, where they will record public statements till 4 pm.
The commission includes retired high court judge Devendra Arora, former DGP Arvind Kumar Jain, and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Amit Mohan Prasad. It was established to investigate incidents and ensure accountability.
Speaking to reporters, Commission member and former DGP Arvind Kumar Jain said, “We have established this camp to ensure that people who wish to share their concerns and provide information do not have to go to Lucknow.
This is for their convenience. We will stay here for 4-5 hours to hear.” This investigation aims to reveal the cause of these riots and collect relevant evidence from those involved.
Four people were killed and many others, including security personnel, were injured in the violence on November 24, as the incident sparked a major political conflict that broke out in the National Assembly and Parliament.
