More than 100 flights were delayed and 10 were canceled as dense fog resulted in low visibility or low visibility conditions in the Delhi-NCR region on Friday.
Zero sightings were reported at around a dozen airports in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh today. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi’s Palam Airport, Punjab’s Amristar Airport, Varanasi, Agra and Lucknow Airport in Uttar Pradesh reported no visibility at 5:30 am.
As many as 117 flights were delayed due to dense fog at Delhi IGI Airport. At least 76 flights reported an average delay of 20 minutes at 7 a.m., according to flight tracking website Flightradar24.
At 7:30 am on Friday, sightings at the IGI airport were recorded at 50 meters.
The Delhi airport also issued a passenger advisory amid dense fog at 5:30 am.
“While landings and take-offs continue at Delhi airport, non-CAT III compliant flights may be affected,” read an update posted on Delhi Airport’s official X account.
“Passengers are requested to contact the concerned airline for updated flight information. We deeply regret this,” it continued.
If the aircraft is CAT III compliant, it can take off or land in low visibility conditions.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued an orange alert for Delhi due to dense fog in many places.
Due to the current orange alert, airports, highways and railways may be affected.
According to the satellite image released by IMD, the entire Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and most parts of Rajasthan are under fog. The satellite image also showed a thick blanket of fog covering parts of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
