Amy Graves/Getty ImagesAfter months of speculation, Maxton Hall‘s Harriet Herbig-Matten finally revealed if she’s dating her costar – and on-screen love interest – Damian Hardung.
On the Thursday, January 15, episode of the “G Spot” podcast, Herbig-Matten, 21, was asked about fan rumors about him and Hardung, 26, to which he replied, “It was difficult. We are not together and we were not together.”
The German actress said she was not ready to be asked questions about her private life after that Maxton Hall‘s overnight success.
“It was crazy and obviously such a love story [on the show] and he encourages that. But I think I underestimated you and I think I didn’t know anything either,” he admitted. “Because I really didn’t know where it was going.”
When Maxton Hall that premiered in May 2024, Herbig-Matten didn’t realize how viewers would latch onto her off-screen feud with Hardung, adding, “I didn’t know how big it was going to be either.” I didn’t know that people believe so much and that it is like that.”
The frustrating aspect was strangers on the Internet comparing Herbig-Matten and Hardung’s strengths.

So I said, ‘That’s the only way I can make people fair and happy,'” he explained. “I’ve been thinking about that for a long time. Over time, I had to learn to distance myself from this version.”
Herbig-Matten continued: “There is Ruby and there is Harriet who has been promoted. You know that the person I am and my name is not the real Harriet that I am in my private life. I had to learn first that this is not true and it was difficult.”
Hardung and Herbig-Matten were considered superstars at the time Maxton Hall achieved the record-breaking achievement of being the most-watched non-US title during its first week on Prime Video. It was renewed for a second season one week after its premiere.
At the center of the series are unexpected enemies of the lovers between Ruby (Herbig-Matten) and James (Hardung). The costars have previously revealed that their dynamic off screen is similar to their characters.
“I think in our first interview, he walked into the room and he was wearing this suit and I said, ‘Who’s that cocky guy over there?’ “But in our second and final interview, it just clicked and we had a mutual understanding,” said Herbig-Matten. “We had an interesting momentum while we were shooting. Herbig-Matten also reflected on the “deep emotions” that came with him “playing a love story for the first time.”
