The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) on Monday successfully test-fired the Nag Mark 2, a third-generation heat-and-forget anti-tank missile.
Tests were carried out at the Pokhran airfield in Rajasthan, where the missile showed exceptional accuracy and reliability, destroying all limits imposed on both high and low range limits, according to the Ministry of Defense.
“The field test of the indigenously developed Nag Mk 2, a third-generation anti-tank guided missile, was successfully conducted recently in the Pokhran area in the presence of senior Indian Army officials,” the department said. in an official statement.
“During three field tests, the missile system destroyed all targets — high range and low range, thus confirming its firing range,” it added.
Developed by DRDO, the Nag Mark 2 missile is specifically designed to eliminate modern weapon threats. Its fire-and-forget technology allows operators to lock on to targets before launch, ensuring precise strikes even in complex battlefield conditions.
In addition to the missile test, the Nag Missile Carrier (NAMICA) Version 2 was also successfully tested, marking an important step in implementing a complete weapon system, the Ministry said.
This success underlined India’s growing strength in anti-tank warfare and strengthened the readiness of its defense forces.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, Army and industry stakeholders for their role in achieving the milestone. “The successful tests of Nag Mk 2 confirm India’s commitment to achieving self-sufficiency in defense production,” he said.
Dr Samir V Kamat, Secretary of Defense for R&D and Chairman of DRDO, praised the teams involved, saying, “This achievement underscores the collaboration between DRDO, the Indian Army, and the defense industry in developing India’s indigenous capabilities.”
