Little girl killed in tiger attack in Gujarat’s Amreli; cages placed to trap the animal | Ahmedabad news

A 7-year-old girl was mauled to death by a tiger in Gujarat state’s Amreli, prompting authorities to set traps in the area to catch the big cat, officials said on Monday.

The tiger attacked the girl while she was accompanying her parents to work in the cotton field in Chitrasar village on Sunday evening, said Range Forest officer, Rajula, GL Vaghela.

The girl suffered severe neck injuries and died after being rushed to a hospital in Jafrabad district, an official said.

The forest department has formed eight teams and set up cages in the surrounding areas to catch the animals, he said.

Rajula’s Member of Parliament, Hira Solanki, said that he has instructed the forest officials to take immediate steps to arrest the tiger that attacked the girl.

“I also asked the government to take drastic measures, ban tigers (entering human settlements) and shift them to forest areas to avoid human-animal conflicts,” he said in a video statement.

“Residents are afraid and worried because of the increase in tiger attacks. They think twice before entering the cotton farms in the region,” said the legislator.
