Just 10 days before his inauguration, President-elect Donald Trump was granted an “unconditional discharge” in a hush money case, meaning he is a convicted felon but will face no further penalties. Justice Merchan issued an unconditional dismissal of all 34 cases, as expected. Merchan told the court that he had decided that unconditional release was “the only legal sentence, without entering the highest office of the country”.
