UX announces labels for parody accounts


Parody accounts on X (formerly Twitter) are about to go viral.

On Thursday, X’s official security account shared a post announcing that the parody account labels are coming out.

“We are removing profile labels for parody accounts to clearly distinguish these types of accounts and their content on our platform,” it reads.

“We designed these labels to increase transparency and to ensure that users are not fooled into thinking that such accounts are part of the parody business. Parody labels will be applied to both posts and accounts on X to clearly indicate the source of the content.

Musk announced back in 2022 that parody accounts would need to mark themselves as such or risk permanent suspension, perhaps because that trick was made easier — and harder to decipher — by the sudden ability for anyone to buy a blue tag.
