Canadian company Plantaform unveiled its smart indoor garden powered by “fogponics” at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, marking its hard launch with US CEO Alberto Aguilar plugging it as a “Nespresso for your vegetables” that uses steam very fine hydrate plants, which leads to faster growth and 30 to 50 percent less water consumption compared to standard hydroponic systems.
The Mashable team caught up with Plantaform at CES’ Pepcom press show on Monday night, and it’s easily one of the smartest home gadgets I’ve seen here all week. Consumer Technology, the organizer of the trade show, shares my enthusiasm: the 2025 CES Innovation Awards for Best Innovation in the Food and AgTech category.

Not too bad for the rest of NASA, mind you. Aguilar told me that Plantaform’s mist-based irrigation technology was originally developed (and then dropped) by management as a way to grow crops in space.

By design, the Plantaform is a 26-inch oval container (available in midnight black or frosted white) with removable windows, LED floodlights, and a central column filled with chambers for up to 15 soil-release seed pods. Plantaform adapts to plants throughout their growth cycles using an algorithm-determined combination of water, light, and nutrients, according to the company’s website.
The mist in question hits the plants right at their roots from inside the Plantaform pod hub. One inevitably leaks and floats through its leaves, shaking the system’s immediate surroundings while looking cool as hell.

In terms of maintenance, users need to do more than ensure that the Plantaform is filled with fertilized water every two to three weeks. Its mobile app provides setup guidance and maintenance reminders.

The word “bug” gets thrown around a lot at CES, but Plantaform really feels like one in the indoor garden space. Not only is it self-cleaning — eliminating tedious work in the middle of the cycle — but it will also support seed users by the end of the year, Aguilar said. There is no need to keep buying pods, as required by other indoor gardens such as the popular hydroponic Gardyn.

The Plantaform, while not exactly cheap, is also competitively priced: You can order one now for $499.99. Plant pod packets are $29.99 each and are available in lettuce, cherry tomato, and cocktail herb mixes.
