Mindy Kaling has been open about her health journey over the years.
Many fans met this comedian through his character The officeKelly Kapoor, who started in 2005. In addition to rehearsing on screen, Kaling was in the writer’s room. During a season 5 episode, Kelly continued her Beyoncé-inspired diet — replacing the diet with a cleanse containing lemon, cayenne pepper, water and maple syrup.
That same year, Kaling released her first book, Is Everyone Participating Except Me? In a memoir, she wrote about going on a “temporary diet” in high school after a classmate told her “you’ll look really good if you lose weight.” As a result, Kaling “would eat half of what was put in front of me, and not even dessert.”
The actress explained that she “always had a normal weight until college” when she gained 35 pounds within the first six months of her freshman year. She lost weight by starting to exercise in her life but declared that she “will be fat for the rest of her life” for four reasons: “she has no hobbies other than losing weight,” “she has no discipline,” the men she “falls in love with have entered me in a way. I am happy” and “he is very happy in a way what I look like, as long as I don’t break the beach chair.”
Kaling’s new lifestyle came after struggling to lose her baby weight. She welcomed daughters Katherine and Anne in 2017 and 2024, respectively, and son Spencer in 2020.
