Wimbledon champion and World No. 10 Barbora Krejcikova withdrew from the upcoming Australian Open on Sunday due to a back problem.
And on Sunday, former World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark and Karolina Pliskova from the Czech Republic also withdrew from the tournament.
“Hello everyone, I wanted to share a quick update about my withdrawal from the Australian Open,” Krejcikova, from the Czech Republic, wrote on social media. “Unfortunately, my back injury, which bothered me at the end of last season, is still not fully healed. It’s really disappointing because I love playing in Melbourne and I have good memories of reaching the quarterfinals last year.”
Krejcikova, 29, will be replaced by Spain’s Nuria Parrizas Diaz.
Wozniacki, the 2018 Australian Open champion, has withdrawn from the upcoming tournament for undisclosed reasons. She was replaced by Ukraine’s Yuliia Starodubtseva, while Canada’s Rebecca Marino replaced Pliskova.
The main draw for the Australian Open will begin on Jan. 12-26.
