Hundreds of flights and many trains were delayed across North India as fog blanketed many states, including Delhi, reducing visibility amid the ongoing cold wave in the region. Flight operations were temporarily suspended at the Delhi airport as runway visibility on Saturday morning was zero. More than 150 flights were delayed, and about 30 were canceled due to the prevailing conditions.
“Due to dense fog, flight operations have been disrupted at the airport. Passengers are requested to contact the concerned airline for updated flight information,” said airport authorities.
Airlines, including IndiGo and Air India, have issued advisories to travelers, saying that “visibility due to dense fog is affecting flight operations in Delhi and parts of North India”.
At Kolkata airport, around 25 services were affected, similar situations were reported in Chandigarh, Amritsar, Jaipur, and many other airports in North India.
The thick fog also disrupted train services and road traffic, causing widespread disruption.
On Friday, more than 400 flights were delayed due to bad weather at the airport.
