All arrangements are in place for the fourth edition of the Beypore International Water Festival starting at Beypore in Kozhikode on Saturday (January 4).
The two-day festival which includes various water fun activities, food feast, kite festival, drone show, and cultural activities at Beypore marina and Chaliyam beach is organized by the Department of Tourism and District Tourism Promotion Council.
Water activities include stand-up kayaking, sailing, angling, flyboard demo, dinky boat racing, paramotoring, surfing, net casting, country boat racing and para-mounting. The Coast Guard’s Dornier Art Crafts will fly over the area on both days. Coast Guard and Navy ships will be open to the public in the harbor as well.
The food festival started at Parisons Ground on December 27 and will continue on Sunday.
The drone program will be held between 7.30 pm and 8.30 pm It will be followed by a music program led by singers KS Harishankar and Jyotsna Radhakrishnan.
Traffic to and from Beypore is heavily restricted due to the festival. Parking arrangements have been made in four different areas. Vehicles coming via BC Road will be parked at the mini stadium, while those coming from Kozhikode city can be parked at the GVHSS lot. Two sites are planned near the port for vehicles arriving in Beypore city. Those vehicles coming via Payyanakkal OM Road will park at Kallingal area.
Around 75 autorickshaws will be plying between the parking lots and Beypore city. Guests will be transported by water to avoid traffic.
To facilitate transportation, Jhankar service across Chaliyar between Beypore and Chaliyam has been extended till 10 pm Additional Jhankar has been brought from Kochi.
A full-time clinic will be opened near the Marina to cater to the health needs of tourists. About 750 policemen were brought from different parts of the State for security. City watching, drone surveillance, CCTV in large areas, and wireless communication facilities. Besides the police, 280 volunteers will also be on duty. Meanwhile, the Coast Guard, Harbor Police, and Fisheries Marine Enforcement will monitor the coast and sea. Ships, boats, marine ambulance, and Fire force Dinky boats will also be available for emergency transport.
