When Samsung unveiled the world’s first 27-inch 4K OLED gaming monitor on Thursday, Engadget’s Igor Bonifacic predicted that other vendors would soon follow suit. Indeed, MSI followed suit on the same day at CES 2025 with two monitors with standard specs: a 27-inch 4K QD-OLED display and a 27-inch QD-OLED single with 500Hz smooth. renewal rate.
First up: a 27-inch 4K QD-OLED one, marketed as… MPG 272URX QD-OLED. (Sure, why not!) MSI distinguishes its monitor as the first to combine that panel with DisplayPort 2.1a, which can offer a better combination of resolution and frame rates. Like the Samsung equivalent (G81SF), it has a refresh rate of 240Hz and should look nice and clean at 166 PPI.
MSI says this panel “significantly reduces chromatic aberration,” which should help with the fine text clarity that’s often the norm for QD-OLED screens. As my colleague Igor points out, this can be an excellent monitor for games, work or anything else you can throw at it.
It supports NVIDIA’s G-SYNC technology, so smooth gameplay will not be a concern. The MPG 272URX QD-OLED even took home the CES 2025 Innovation Award.
The 27-inch QHD QD-OLED model also has an attractive and memorable name: MPG 272QR QD-OLED X50. (Yes!) MSI is marketing this monitor to “all the casual gamers out there,” probably because of its low resolution (2,560 x 1,440). It also uses DisplayPort 2.1a and (like Samsung’s) can have a 0.03ms gray-to-gray pixel response time. It’s VESA ClearMR 21000 certified, so motion blur shouldn’t be a problem if you’re enjoying its 500Hz refresh rate.
MSI has not shared pricing or release date details for either model.
