Although Andrew Garfield entered Spider-Man: No Way Homehe was forced to deny. That’s why he knows he’s not in the upcoming sequel, coming out in 2026, he doesn’t have much weight.
“I’m going to disappoint you,” Garfield told GQ when asked if he had signed on for Tom Holland’s upcoming fourth. Spider Man. “Yes, no. But I know that no one will trust anything I say from now on.” That odd choice of words takes us back to 2021, one of the many times Garfield is asked about appearing No Way Home. “Listen, I will not speak for anyone but myself,” said the actor at the time. “Maybe they are doing something, but I don’t have a phone.” Well, now we know that Garfield didn’t just get the call, he played a major role in the movie. This happened in secret, he was forced to lie to protect the secret.
However, in this case, we think his statement has more authority. Very little is officially known about its sequel other than its release date (July 24, 2026), its director (Destin Daniel Cretton), and its stars (Tom Holland and Zendaya, to boot). Producer Amy Pascal also confirmed that it will continue the story from the end of the last film where Peter Parker (Holland) made the whole world forget about him to save it. So, we think, we’re going to face Peter Parker, still as Spider-Man, in a world where no one knows who Peter Parker is, or what Spider-Man is. Which is a very blank slate.
Could that story always be based in or near New York City? That’s right. Could it be another great adventure? Definitely. And if it’s the latter, does that mean this Peter Parker meets his various friends, Peter Two (Tobey Maguire) and Peter Three (Garfield)? Of course. But we just have a feeling, if that happens—not if, but when—it will be a little later down the line. Like maybe in between Avengers: Secret Warscoming out the following summer.
And whether it does or not, Garfield can’t tell.
