Hinge is a great dating app for geeky 20 to 30-somethings who want to see where connections take them. It’s less serious than eharmony and more hip than Match, with profile videos, information, and a new, modern design.
Hinge is the top three dating app among 18- to 29-year-olds (Tinder and Bumble have the most users), according to a study from the Pew Research Center. The organization found that nearly one in five young people have used Hinge, and among online dating app users in this demographic, 39 percent have used Hinge.
Why we chose this:
Although Hinge is part of the Matchmaking Group, it takes a personal approach to dating – and encourages users to “Date Forward” by being intentional and thoughtful. With Hinge, you can embrace your creativity and show your interests through the app’s profile commands and profile videos. The more you put yourself out there, the more likely you are to find your lobster (or that special someone).
Hinge goes beyond simple swipes by encouraging users to interact with each other’s profiles, creating opportunities for deeper connections based on shared interests. In fact, according to a recent poll, Hinge said that his biggest motivation for 2024 (as of October) was “I’m crazy about…” Following this information “my simple pleasures,” “the way to win me that,” and “together, we can.” Unfortunately, for our purposes, “I geek out on…” is 24th on the list, beating last year’s 25th entry, “I bet you can’t.”
That’s not the only way Hinge encourages engagement. To combat ghosting and encourage more conversations, Hinge’s “Your Chance” feature prevents you from “liking” or matching new people until you respond to existing messages. Once you have eight in your inbox, you should be busy. And to help you organize the best experience, Hinge’s “Hidden Words” feature, launched in April 2024, lets you filter out specific words, phrases, or emoji you don’t want to see in your Likes or Comments.
