A day remains before Prime Minister Narendra Modi lays the foundation stones of two new campuses of Delhi University, including one college to be named after Hindutva ideologue Veer Savarkar, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) said on Friday. wrote to the Prime Minister, demanding that the center be named after former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
“He is will launch a college named after Veer Savarkar under Delhi University, NSUI strongly wants the institute to be named after former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. His recent death has left a great void, and the most fitting tribute to his legacy would be to dedicate higher education institutions in his name,” said a letter written by Varun Choudhary, national president of NSUI. NSUI is the student wing of the Congress.
“Dr Singh’s major contributions, including Central Universities Act 2009, RTE Act 2009… established IITS, IIMS, AIIMS, and a network of central universities across India. These programs have changed the education system of the nation, benefiting millions,” said Choudhary.
NSUI’s demands included “a world-class college under Delhi University named after Dr Manmohan Singh”, “a Central University dedicated in his name”, “covering his life journey from a post-partition student to a global celebrity”. curriculum and the political sphere”, the letter added.
While the college named after Savarkar will come up at West Delhi’s Najafgarh campus, another campus will be named after late BJP leader Sushma Swaraj at DU’s East Delhi campus in Fatehpur Beri, sources said.
