Decades after communal violence in Moradabad closed, a temple in Daulatabagh area has been reopened by the local administration and authorities, according to officials.
The development comes as many abandoned or locked temples in various parts of Uttar Pradesh have been reopened for prayers.
“After 44 years, the temple was reopened on Monday (December 30, 2024),” officials said.
“According to the instructions of the management, a team consisting of the police and the employees of the municipal corporation started the campaign to reopen the temple. There was never any opposition or chaos, and the local people cooperated in this effort,” said Nagphani Police Inspector Sunil Kumar.
“After the re-opening, it was found that some idols in the temple were lost or misplaced,” said Mr. Kumar.
He added that local authorities are now overseeing the restoration work, ensuring that the area is cleaned, repaired, and prepared for regular worship again.
The process proceeded peacefully, with no reports of interference or opposition from any party, added Mr. Kumar.
