Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit plans to drag Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh to court after accusing him of receiving money from the BJP.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Dikshit announced that he would sue the two AAP leaders for defamation. “I have decided to file a criminal and civil case against Atishi and Sanjay Singh because they say I am taking rupees from the BJP,” he said.
Dikshit, the son of Delhi’s Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, has promised to use the damages sought by her legal decision regarding environmental projects in the capital.
“I will ask them to give me Rs 10 million. I will donate Rs 5 crore for cleaning the Yamuna and Rs 5 crore for the pollution issue in Delhi,” he said.
This comes amid an ongoing battle between the AAP and the Congress, both of which are gearing up for the Delhi Assembly elections in February. The controversy erupted after Congress leader Ajay Maken made derogatory remarks about AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal.
Infuriated by Maken’s allegations, Atishi said that the Congress had joined hands with the BJP before the elections. He also accused Dikshit of being a stooge of the BJP and accepting huge sums of money from the party.
AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh also echoed the sentiment he threatened to persuade members of the INDIA bloc to expel the Congress to the alliance if no action is taken by Maken.
On the other hand, Dikshit, who is set to compete with former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi district, accused the AAP government of corruption and cheating the public.
“The problem is not that the government is exaggerating its performance, but it is about the government telling blatant lies,” Dikshit said, challenging Kejriwal in public discourse about the state government’s achievements.
“Come with the government figures and sit face to face, I will prove how fake the ‘vicas’ they are selling are,” he added.
Dikshit also criticized AAP’s handling of issues like electricity and water, calling Kejriwal a “liar” for allegedly exaggerating the work done by his government.
“They said there is corruption in the electricity department and promised to lower the standard. The promise was not a subsidy—so why couldn’t they downgrade? Has AAP found anomalies in electricity and water meters? The former Delhi Chief Minister is a pathological liar,” he said.
