WIRED’s 2024 Year in Review Questions: From AI Slop to Human Mindfulness

2024 was another a year defined by productive AI, with software features placed in the hands of millions of people around the world and inevitably built into popular services, such as Google Search. Although some AI tools, such as ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode and Google’s NotebookLM, were fun to work with, the prevailing narrative remained on the inherent flaws of the technology, and full of hallucinations and ongoing questions about proper data training.

I mean, who can forget Shrimp Jesus and other AI-generated images that have gone viral on Facebook? Or when AI Overview tells Google users that it’s okay to eat rocks in moderation and put glue on pizza? It was a year where weird AI-generated content was heard everywhere.

Here at WIRED, 2024 was full of fun investigations, in-depth interviews, and comprehensive gadget reviews. This quiz that looks back at our journalism throughout the year captures a small part of all the hard work and great pieces from our colleagues. With that in mind, I hope it’s an interesting way for readers to reflect on what can often feel like a tumultuous year.
