Business leaders are mourning the death of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh

Leaders of Indian industry and people from around the world in business paid tribute to the late Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and the architect of modern India, who died on Thursday (December 26, 2024) at the age of 92 following an age-related illness.

“We mourn the passing of the former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, one of the pioneers who envisioned a new, free India taking its rightful place in the world. Dr. Singh will always be remembered for his visionary thinking and deep insight while remaining humble and upholding his personal values. His inspiring leadership has made him respected all over the world,” said N. Chandrasekaran, chairman, Tata Sons.

“India has lost one of its tallest leaders and leading economists. His most important contribution – the epochal 91 reforms stimulated economic growth for many years and more importantly changed the opportunities for India and Indians,” said Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman, Aditya Birla Group.

“For several decades in public life, his wisdom, wisdom and humility became an example, leaving an indelible mark on the conscience of the nation. His remarkable rise from humble beginnings to the office of Prime Minister reveals the boundless potential of India and provides inspiration to generations of Indians,” he added.

He said that he was very sad about the death of Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India and the visionary leader behind India’s economic freedom, Sajjan Jindal, chairman of JSW Group said, “[Dr. Singh] A statesman of humility and wisdom- India owes him a debt of gratitude”

The chairman, president, managing director, member companies and employees of the United States-India Business Council expressed their condolences to the family of Dr. Singh and to the people of India for his passing.

“Prime Minister Singh played an important role in elevating the US-India relationship and modernizing the relationship and launching both democracies on a continuous path of strategic, economic, and technological convergence,” said USIBC President Ambassador (retd) Atul Keshap.

“Through his continued leadership in reaching a landmark agreement on nuclear energy cooperation, Manmohan Singh is rightly regarded as the architect of modern bilateral relations and will be remembered by many Americans with respect and fondness for his gentle and forthright leadership,” he said.

Speaking with Dr. Singh as India’s economic reformer and humanitarian leader, Vijay Kalantri, chairman of WTC Mumbai said, “Knowing Dr. Manmohan Singh personally was a privilege and working with him was a privilege. Sir, Your wisdom and humility will encourage us forever.”
