Miller, 60, who made his directorial debut with the 2016 superhero film, revealed his surprise salary during an interview with Collider published on Tuesday, December 24.
“You may not know, but it’s not really profitable to be a first-time director in Hollywood, and I’ll tell you straight,” said the filmmaker. “I got $225,000 for directing Deadpool. I know it sounds like a lot of money, but two years of work, that’s not a ton of money.”

Miller continued, “Not that I’m not grateful, I’m—thankful, of course because you have to when you’re a director for the first time. My agent said, ‘Baby, you’re doing more with that episode The Walking Dead!’”
Miller’s paycheck paled in comparison to the more than $782 million the film made at the box office. However, he feels “uniquely fortunate” to be a part of Deadpool franchise, which continued into 2018 Deadpool 2 and 2024 Deadpool and Wolverinedirected by David Leitch again Shawn Levyrespectively.
