OpenAI is working to fix ChatGPT, other apps after crashes

OpenAI is working to fix an issue that has caused major disruptions to its applications, including ChatGPT.

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) company’s statement, posted on social media platform X shortly after 4 pm ET on Thursday, noted that “most” of ChatGPT, API and Sora were down.

The error status page shows OpenAI identified a problem with high error rates in ChatGPT, API, and Sora at 2 pm and began investigating.

OpenAI said the problem was caused by an upstream service provider, a company that connects a local network of Internet providers to the Internet.

Two additional updates at 3pm and 4pm noted that OpenAI was “continuing to work on a fix [the] issue.”

As of 6:30 pm, ChatGPT and APIs were partially restored, and Sora was fully functional.

“We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused,” the company wrote. “We found the issue and have started to recover. We hope to be back soon.”

Users around the world have taken to X to comment on the outage, with some noting that the crash has hindered their ability to conduct research and complete school or work tasks.
