Former India captain Virat Kohli has admitted that indiscretions cost him dearly in the last three innings of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy. Virat Kohli has managed scores of 7, 11 and 3 in the last three innings since his hundred in Perth in the first Test.
“The last two or three innings didn’t go the way I wanted,” Virat Kohli told former India coach Ravi Shastri in an interview with Fox Cricket on the first day of the Boxing Day Test.
“Like I said, I’ve never been disciplined enough to sit there and, you know, I’m really grinding it. That is what the challenge of Test Cricket brings.”
Kohli said that the stadiums in Australia are more popular than when he last played under them.

“Obviously, these stadiums are more alive than when we last played here. So, a different approach is needed.
“But that’s something I’m proud of for going out and facing different situations and stepping up when the team wants me or needs me.
“So, yes, the idea is to get stuck, like I said. Get in there, open your eyes, play enough balls to start playing the game after that, but respect the conditions first. The idea of the team, they will be in a good state of mind.”
In anticipation
Regarding the burden of expectations, the 36-year-old said: “Yes, expectations will always be there, I think, playing for your country first, then doing that for a long time, expectations are always there. follow.”
“I think the most important thing is to make sure you understand your plans and understand the space you’re in.

“When you start focusing on what you expect, you get away from what you have to do. So, you know, the idea is to follow the game plan that I have. Just stay my way.
“We just understand the nature of the game. That is what has brought me success over the years. And focus more on what the team needs from me.
“If anything, you know, I’m coming in early, so it’s a different situation. If there is a partnership, use and extend that good team time. So, I think it’s just looking at the conditions and making sure you have your game plan set.
In the series
The series is tied at 1-1. Kohli also said that the series has started now.
“I mean, if you had told us that we would both be in the Boxing Day Test, we would have taken it with both hands,” he said.

A record for India at the MCG
India have a good record at the MCG. They can take confidence from their victories in their two test tours of Australia in 2018-19 and 2020-2021, including wins against Melbourne on both occasions.
“Yes, we played some really good cricket here. Like I said, last time we played, we won. The year before that, we also won. So, I think it’s just about understanding where the seed is placed. And that takes all the pressure off people,” said Kohli.
“Now it’s time to play. We all won. We want to have a strong test game here.
“Try to climb the ladder to the SCG. And yes, it will be a cracker of a test match. Both teams really want to win this one.
“And Australia will bring their A game and so will we. But yes, the opportunity is in front of us.
“Avoid following in Brisbane and how the tail got stuck. And making sure we didn’t hit again under pressure was huge. And finally, it finally caught our attention when the situation looked bad for us. So, we’re really stuck, we were shown the character on the right stage.
“That gave us another chance to start over and get closer to this game as we got closer to the first one. Well, it’s a special day, a special test match.”
