Tamil Nadu police seize heroin worth Rs 35 lakh from Erode, two smugglers from Assam arrested – Tamil Nadu News

The Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) police in Tamil Nadu’s Erode seized heroin worth Rs 35 lakh from two persons at Erode Railway Junction on Wednesday. Upon being tipped off, PEW officers raided the parking lot of the intersection, where they caught two men with a suspicious bag.

When the police searched, they found 50 grams of heroin hidden in the bag. The two men, natives of Assam and aged 29 and 30, admitted during questioning that they smuggled drugs from Assam with plans to sell them at a high profit in Erode.

The PEW police registered a case and arrested the two.

In a related operation on Tuesday evening, PEW police seized three kilograms from a garage near Erode Railway Station. In that incident, a man from Odisha was caught and arrested.

Recently, four men and one woman were arrested by the Esplanade police in Chennai for drug smuggling. The police arrested the five after a security check in November 2024. The police found two men in possession of methamphetamine, known as meth or crystal meth, which led to their arrest.

Chennai police, on October 24, arrested seven college students for running a secret meth lab in the city. A group of students set up a methamphetamine-making lab in one of their houses in the city to produce this highly addictive drug under the radar.

In another raid on October 29, the Narcotics Control Bureau seized 2.7 kg of methamphetamine, worth Rs 27 crore, and arrested two suspects in a drug-trafficking case in the city.
