Low-cost carrier Thai AirAsia X plans to operate four weekly flights between Bangkok and Delhi from January 15 as it looks to meet growing demand from India, including onward flight connections.

Thai AirAsia X, which operates a fleet of A330 aircraft, operated its first flight from Bangkok to the country’s capital on Sunday (December 15, 2024).

The CEO of this airline Tassapon Bijleveld on Monday (December 16, 2024) said that it has started a flight to Delhi following the development of flight rights between India and Thailand.

With the additional bilateral Air Service Agreement, the number of seats that can be used each week by airlines from either side has increased by 7,000 and the number can increase to 14,000 seats later.

Also, Indian citizens have visa free entry to Thailand and India has waived the visa fee for Thai tourists.

“We are seeing growing demand in the international sector, supported by measures such as visa-free entry, which have made travel more accessible and affordable,” said Tassapon Bijleveld.

According to him, the frequency of Bangkok-Delhi flights will be increased to four a week — Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday — starting January 15, 2025.

Currently, the airline operates two weekly flights — Wednesdays and Sundays — between Bangkok and Delhi.

Bijleveld said the airline expects to meet around 20% of India’s domestic travel demand from Bangkok to other countries through its connecting flights.

“With Don Mueang Airport (Bangkok) as one of our four key hubs, Thai AirAsia X is well positioned to provide seamless connectivity, driven by the number of Indian travelers to Thailand and AirAsia’s network of more than 130 destinations,” he added. .

The carrier offers 370 economy seats on all its flights.

Thai AirAsia and Thai AirAsia X are part of the AirAsia Group.

Currently, Thai AirAsia operates in 12 cities in India.

Generally, Thai AirAsia operates A320 flights with a flight time of four hours while Thai AirAsia X operates flights that take more than four hours.
