SNL Recap: Chris Rock on UnitedHealthcare CEO’s Death in Monologue

Chris Rock he was not afraid to tackle the latest topics Saturday Night Live opening monologue.

On the Saturday, December 14, episode, Rock, 59, addressed the death of the UnitedHealthcare CEO. Brian Thompson and the accused his murderer, Luigi Mangionewith controversial jokes. The fourth-time host addressed the situation early in his monologue, saying the media seemed to be focusing on Mangione’s appearance instead of the crimes he was accused of.

“We found Luigi. You know, and that’s good,” Rock told the live audience. “I really feel sorry for the family. Everyone is concerned about how good this guy looks. If he looks Jonah Hillno one cared. They’ve already given him a seat – he’d be dead.”

Rock continued: “But he actually killed a man – a man with a family, a man with children. I offer my condolences. My condolences to the CEO of healthcare. This is a real person, you know? But you also have to go, ‘You know, sometimes drug dealers get shot.’

“I mean you saw The phoneright?” The rock laughed.

Mangione, 26, was arrested on gun charges in Pennsylvania on Monday, December 9, and will later be extradited to New York to face charges in Thompson’s death on December 4 at the age of 50. Mangione’s attorney said he intends to deny it and wants to review the evidence, according to the statement CBS News.

Thompson was in New York at UnitedHealthcare’s annual investor meeting when he was killed. He is survived by his wife, Paulette, and their two sons.

Rock isn’t the only person who has experienced the CEO’s death and Mangione’s internet fame. It’s SNL this week. A cold-opened cast member Sarah Sherman spoofing crime analyst Nancy Grace while addressing the public reaction to Mangione’s arrest.

“And of course, everyone online is celebrating the hard work of law enforcement in catching this dangerous criminal,” Sherman, 31, was quoted as saying by Grace. “Just kidding, all the psychos made him a sex symbol.”

He continued: “That’s right, the health killer Luigi Mangione is hot and tormenting women and gays.”

Sherman was joined by another cast member Kenan Thompson of the skirt, who played a character in the Pennsylvania McDonald’s where Mangione was arrested.

“Well, Nancy, I’ve been eating McDonald’s every day for three years,” Kenan said. “I got type 10 diabetes. Blue Cross? Bitch, I have a blue foot. Do you know what my health insurance plan is called? I hope it will pass.”

Sherman’s character also asks Kenan if he thinks people are really attracted to Mangione.

“Well, I mean, you can look at him and tell him he’s got a h—,” Thompson said. “I mean, women love bad boys.”

Colin Jost he also talked about Mangione on “Weekend Update,” mocking the arrest and his future in the news.

“This week, America went through a serious, serious debate about who’s going to play this guy in a Netflix miniseries,” he began as Mangione’s photo flashed on the screen. “After the police arrested the suspected former shooting officer Luigi Mangione, they found a note from him expressing anger at the American company. However, he went to Starbucks before the shooting and was caught at McDonald’s. So perhaps his biggest crime was hypocrisy. The McDonald’s where the shooter was caught was getting a one-star Yelp review to punish them for the robbery. First, who checks Yelp reviews for McDonald’s? The only Yelp review for McDonald’s should be, ‘Open. Five stars.’”

When a throwback photo of Jost from high school emerged, the coach said: “Every high school suspect in the shooting said they were shocked that he could be a murderer. Even though everyone I went to high school with was shocked, I didn’t.”
