It feels like everyone was talking about this year the US election and the extreme heat. And, according to Google’s Year in Review 2024, all of this was searched for by anyone, too.
Google’s annual review of trending terms for 2024 reveals that the top searches worldwide were based on sporting events such as the Copa America, the UEFA European Championship, and the Olympics. Apart from that, people are looking for Liam Payne, the former One Direction singer who died in October, and the US president-elect, Donald Trump.
Unsurprisingly, the majority of searches this year were related to the US presidential election, with people also searching for current President Joe Biden and Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
Other buzzwords this year include “extreme heat,” apparently related to the extremely high temperatures in many parts of the world this summer, “iPhone 16,” which shows continued interest in Apple’s flagship phone, and Imane Khelif, the Algerian boxer. who was falsely accused of being a man during the 2024 Summer Olympics.
