The Rajya Sabha saw many disruptions and adjourned on Thursday afternoon after heated discussions between the Finance Ministry and the opposition benches on several issues.
Referring to the press conference held the previous day by the opposition MPs without a no-confidence motion, Leader of the House JP Nadda said, “The Chairman cannot be asked about approval, and for other purposes, the Chairman’s decision cannot be criticized or questioned.” . To do so is to disrespect the House and the Speaker. This is clearly stated”.
Nadda then said, “What is the relationship between Sonia Gandhi and Soros? The world wants to know.”
Countering Nadda, Kharge said, “… he said that nothing should be said against the instructions of the Chairman, and that this is contempt. Yeh log vishay ko bhatkana chahte hain (They want to divert the issue).”
Dhankhar said, “Have you come to the Business Advisory Committee? Have you accepted my invitation yet?”, which caused an uproar from the opposition party following the adjournment of the House to 2 pm.
After the House reconvened amid brief remarks, Dhankhar allowed TMC MP Derek O’Brien to raise a point of order under Rule 251. However, his point was not placed on record even amid the uproar.
Senior JD(S) leader HD Deve Gowda stood up and spoke and raised the issue of the no-confidence motion and said “it should not have happened”. He stated that “Kharge’s colleagues are not allowing the House to function”.
Kharge then raised a point of order under Rule 238(a), which stated that allegations of “incriminating nature” against any member cannot be admitted in the House. Dhankhar repeatedly asked him what was the point of order and adjourned the House till 11 am on December 13.
