Instagram is launching a 'Trial Reels' feature for creators to try and tweak content

Instagram has launched a new feature called Trial Reels, designed to help creators test ideas and gather early feedback on their content. This feature allows creators to share reels and accounts beyond their followers, providing a wider scope for testing before deciding to publish to their full audience.

Who Can Use Trial Reels?

To access this feature, you must have a work account. However, selected creators without professional accounts may also gain access as part of Instagram’s ongoing testing.

How to share Trial Reels on Instagram

Follow these steps to create and share a trial reel:

Create a reel: Start as usual, follow all the steps up to the share section.
Enable Trial Mode: Before sharing, enable the trial option.
Share the reel: Tap Share.

Important points to note:

Trial reels are not visible on your profile’s main grid, reels tab, or Feed unless explicitly shared with everyone later.
Trial reels allow you to collect data within 24 hours to measure performance, such as views and engagement.
Some fans may see the trial reels indirectly, such as sharing direct messages or matching audio tags.

Sharing Trial Reels with everyone

If your trial reel works well, you can share it widely to increase its reach. Here’s how:

Tap View trial details in the reels viewer to review metrics such as views, likes, and comments.
Tap Share to everyone to make the reel visible in your main grid, reels tab, and Fan Feed.

Automatic Sharing of Successful Tests

Instagram also offers an option to automatically share test reels that work best. This feature is based on early engagement, ensuring broad access without manual effort.

Steps to enable automatic sharing:

On the publishing screen, tap How it works under Change Trials.
Change Share to everyone to default.
Confirm by tapping I got it.
This setting will apply to all future reels unless changed.
