Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh has been appointed as the next Chief of Air Staff


The government has appointed Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh, PVSM, AVSM, currently serving as the Deputy Chief of Air Staff, as the next Chief of Air Staff, in place of Air Chief Marshal, effective the afternoon of September 30, 2024. . The current Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari, PVSM, AVSM, VM, ADC is leaving office on September 30, 2024, according to a press release from the Ministry of Defense.

Born on October 27, 1964, Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh was commissioned as a pilot in the Indian Air Force in December 1984.

During his long and distinguished service spanning almost 40 years, he served in various positions of command, staff, teaching and international appointments.

An alumnus of the National Defense Academy, the Defense Services Staff College and the National Defense College, the Air Officer is a Qualified Flight Instructor and Test Test Pilot with over 5,000 hours of flying experience in various fixed and rotary aircraft.

During his career, the officer has commanded an active military force and a leading air base. As a test pilot, he led the MiG-29 Project Management Team in Moscow, Russia.

He was also the Project Director (Flight Test) at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and was tasked with testing the Light Combat Aircraft, Tejas.

He held key staff positions of Air Defense Commander in the South Western Air Command and Senior Air Staff Officer in the Eastern Air Command.

Prior to assuming the charge of Deputy Chief of Air Staff, he was the Air Force Officer-in-Chief of the Central Air Command.
