Amid the heated debates and sharp exchanges that often dominate parliamentary sessions, members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha traded their suits for cricket whites.
On Sunday, December 15, Delhi’s Major Dhyan Chand Stadium will host an exciting cricket match between MPs from the two houses, combining sport and reason.
Organized to support the campaigns of a drug- and TB-free India, the show promises to bring a light and unifying moment in a tense political climate.
The brainchild of former Union Minister and Member of Parliament Anurag Thakur, the game invites participation from across the political spectrum, including activists such as Leader of the Opposition Congress in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party member Akhilesh Yadav.
Thakur emphasized the importance of putting political differences aside for the greater good, using the event to highlight unity among lawmakers on important public issues.
Two parties – Speaker 11, representing MPs in the Lok Sabha, and Speaker 11, comprising MPs in the Rajya Sabha – will face each other in a promising contest.
The game will start at 9.30 am, opened by the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla, who will also entertain the participants in the stands.
The 11th Speaker boasts of a star-studded line-up, including Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari, Minister of State for Rural Development Kamlesh Paswan, and Congress MPs Gaurav Gogoi and Deependra Hooda.
The team also includes cricket talent, with Trinamool Congress MP and Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan likely to play, adding a touch of professionalism.
On the other hand, the 11th Chairman will include a mix of experience and youth – with RLD MP Jayant Chaudhary, BJP MP Milind Deora, Raghav Chaddha of the Aam Aadmi Party, Trinamool MP Derek O’Brien, MP of JDU Sanjay Jha, and Congress member Shaktisinh. Gohil confirming their participation.
