AP Top 25: Oregon, Georgia, Notre Dame, Texas, top PSU polls to CFP

Georgia moved up to No. 2 behind In Oregon in Sunday’s Associated Press Top 25 college football poll, Texas again Penn State remained in the top five after losing the conference championship games once Arizona State appeared in the top 10 for the first time in ten years.

Georgia’s overtime victory over Texas in the SEC title game earned the Bulldogs a three-point promotion. The Bulldogs, like Oregon, closed out the first round in the CFP.

Notre Dameidle Saturday and in line for a top-point playoff bid, moved up one spot to No. 3 for its highest ranking since the end of the 2020 season. Texas and Penn State each slipped two spots and were slated for multiple playoff berths.

State of Ohio, Tennessee, Boise State, In Indiana and Arizona State — all playoff contenders — finished in the top 10.

Alabama stayed at No. 11 and SMU dropped three spots to No. 12 after its 34-31 loss to Clemson in the ACC title game. Clemson received the ACC’s automatic playoff bid and was the No. 13 seed behind the Mustangs.

Arizona State’s victory over Iowa State in the Big 12 title game gave the Sun Devils their first 11-win season since 1996 and their first top-10 ranking since being ranked No. 7 following an 8-1 start in -2014.
