The Union Government will consider the need to name the Belagavi City Railway Station after Sri Shiva Basava Swami of Naganur Rudrakshi Math, Railway Minister V. Somanna said in Belagavi on Sunday.

“I will request the state government to send a proposal in this regard and urge the Union government to consider it properly,” he said.

He was responding in Belagavi to the requests of devotees during the 135th jayanti celebrations of the late seer and the unveiling of a statue of Sri Hangal Kumaraswamy.

The Minister said that the far-seeing vision of the visionary of Naganur helped grow the educational community he founded into a large and diverse institution.

“It started with 40 students. Now we have thousands of students in different places,” he said. It is comparable to Siddaganga Math in Tumakuru, he said.

He said that the construction of the new railway from Belagavi to Dharwad via Kittur would start as soon as the state government gets the land for the project.

“The purchase of things that has started is about to end. We are very determined to finish it as it was the dream of the late Suresh Angadi, who was the Minister of National Rail Transport,” said Mr. Manna.

The figures presented the Seva Ratna Award to former MLC Mahantesh Kavatagimath.

Seers Mallikarjuna Murugharajendra Mahaswamy, Tontad Siddarama Maha Swamy, Channabasava Desikendra Mahaswamy, Allamaprabhu Mahaswamy, Belagavi MP Jagadish Shettar, MLA Mahantesh Kaujalagi and others.
