In an industry filled with countless stars and professionals, making a lasting impression is no small feat and therefore, creating a lasting and incomparable legacy is an even greater task. However, the actor Shabana Azmi he accomplished just that, cementing himself as a paragon of excellence. With an unrivaled record of five National Film Awards for Best Actress – the most ever in acting categories – Shabana has proven herself to be an unbeatable talent, balancing roles seamlessly in all private, general and international projects.
While Shabana strongly believes that training can raise the level of sports and bring out the best players, she also admits that no amount of effort can turn a bad actor into a good one. “If you are gifted and talented, you are like a diamond in the rough; training helps you shine. I strongly believe in training and I think it does you great things,” he said during an interview with him Cinema people.

However, he insists there is an exception – actors who perform well despite not being formally trained. He said their success is due to tireless practice and consistent work. “But if you are a bad player, I don’t think you can survive. Because, there is a void among the bad actors that cannot be filled,” said Shabana. He also emphasized that a good face does not always go hand in hand with good acting skills. “I feel that many filmmakers have this misconception that if they hire the right faces they can get work from them. How can you do the job? You can if and when you should only use their face; but if there are negotiations, it will not happen,” he added.
Reflecting on her experience in director Goutam Ghose’s Patang (1993), Shabana recalled working with many newbies in the initial days of shooting. He admitted that he felt comfortable when he was a famous actor Om Puri he joined the cast a week later. “They (newcomers) were working well. After a week, Om Puri came and I can’t tell you the feeling of relief I had thinking, ‘Oh my god, here’s a professional actor,’ ” he said, adding that it was a great pleasure to work with him. Shabana also named Naseeruddin Shah as her old favorite co-star, while she expressed her desire to work with Farooq Shaikh and Amitabh Bachchan again.
