The proceeds of the sale will initially be used to repay Vodafone’s $101 million in outstanding loans, secured by its Indian assets. Any surplus from the sale is intended to be invested in Vodafone Idea’s proposed equity issuance.
Indus Towers issues pledged shares
In line with these developments, Indus Towers has confirmed the release of a 3.003 per cent stake in the shares held by the promoters of Vodafone. This move facilitates the sale of shares and ensures that funds are channeled to ensure Vodafone Idea’s commitments under the MSAs.
Analysts remain cautious
Motilal Oswal Financial Services (MOFSL) noted that while Vodafone Idea’s fundraising plans and capital expenditure could offset its market share losses, rivals Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio are expected to continue to hold Vi’s market share. “We continue to prefer Bharti Airtel and RIL in the telecom space,” MOFSL said.
The fundraising effort and its impact on the company’s performance will be closely watched by investors, as Vodafone Idea continues to navigate its way to return capital amid tough competition in the telecom sector.
