PM Modi congratulates Navin Ramgoolam for winning parliamentary elections in Mauritius as Pravind Jugnauth agrees

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Navin Ramgoolam on Monday to congratulate him on his victory in the parliamentary elections and said he looked forward to working with him to strengthen the “special and unique relationship” between the two countries.

Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth has reportedly accepted that his coalition, L’Alliance Lepep, has suffered a heavy defeat following Sunday’s parliamentary elections.

Navin Ramgoolam, 77, who is the leader of the Alliance of Change, will be the next leader of the Indian Ocean archipelago, according to media reports.

“I had a warm conversation with my friend @Ramgoolam_Dr, congratulating him on his historic election victory. I wished him great success in leading Mauritius and extended an invitation to visit India,” PM Modi said in his post on X.

“We look forward to working closely together to strengthen our special and unique relationship,” the Prime Minister said.
