Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) leader Seeman has weighed in on the ongoing controversy over the state’s welfare schemes named after late DMK leader M. Karunanidhi.
Seeman warned that following the transfer of Tamizhan power to a ‘Tamizhan’ (a person of Tamil descent), the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party will face the same fate as Jaganmohan Reddy of Telangana.
Seeman’s comments came at a time when Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and AIADMK’s Edappadi K Palaniswami were at loggerheads over the ‘Kalaignar’ plans. According to Seeman, AIADMK will start the program but DMK will finish it and name it.
For Seeman, there was no problem with the Chief Minister naming any projects after his father, but it should be done with his money. “Keep your father’s name in all projects. Apart from the toilets and bars, you have named everything. But you did it using your money or your father’s money,” he said, adding, “Who are you to create these plans for your father using your father’s and mother’s money?
Seeman then criticized the DMK for spending Rs 250 crore of public money on the Kalaignar Memorial in Chennai. “Whose R250 crore money was used to build the Kalaignar Memorial? Named the project under Pandithurai or VO Chidambaranar who sold his land for the nation’s freedom? Seeman asked.
He then warned the DMK to look at what is happening in neighboring Bangladesh. “Remember what happened with the ‘Father of Bangladesh’ Mujibur Rahman,” said an NTK official.
He accused the DMK of power intoxication, and was informed about the fate of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy. “Jaganmohan Reddy also did the same thing as he named everything after his father Rajesekhar Reddy. Chandrababu Naidu was not even in Andhra but in Delhi and even before he took oath, they demolished everything,” Seeman said.
