Uttar Pradesh: Woman, newborn baby dies during surgery in Sultanpur, family accuses doctors of negligence

A woman and her newborn child died on Saturday after doctors at a private hospital here operated on her child without her husband’s consent, prompting the family members of the deceased to raise a ruckus at the facility, police said.

According to the police, Yashoda, 35, who is the wife of Santram Pasi, was rushed to a private hospital in the city by her family on Saturday when she felt pain.

Santram said doctors sent him to take blood and operated on his wife without her consent, a police official said.

The husband says that the mother and the child died during the operation but the doctors did not inform them about it and transferred him to another hospital, saying that his condition is critical, said the official.

In the police complaint, the family says that when an ambulance was called and arrangements were made to accommodate the pregnant woman, they found that both the woman and her baby had died, said Dheeraj Kumar, who is the SHO at the Baldirai police station.

The family members created a ruckus at the hospital when the owner of the hospital and the doctors fled, said a police officer.

The bodies have been sent for post mortem and legal action has been initiated in this matter, he added.
