A woman working in paddy fields was shot dead by suspected mountain militants in Bishnupur district of Manipur on Saturday, officials said.
The incident took place in Saiton area where the woman, along with other farmers, were tending to the crops when the militants opened fire from the hilly areas in the lowland farms of Imphal Valley.
The woman died on the spot, the officials said, adding that the incident has caused tension in the area where people are complaining that the military forces assigned to the area are not responding to this type of attack.
Additional security forces have been sent to the area.
This killing happened two days after a 31-year-old woman was killed in an attack by unknown people in Zairon Hmar village in Jiribam district on Thursday night.
Six houses were burnt in this incident. The burned remains of the woman were found by the people of the area on Friday afternoon.
More than 200 people have been killed and thousands displaced in ethnic violence between Imphal Valley-based Meiteis and hill-based Kukis in Manipur since May last year.
