To improve capacity building at the state level to fight terrorism, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan on Friday asked the states to send competent officers to the NIA which will not only help in furthering the growth of the agency but also enrich the culture of investigation when the officers return home. in their situation.
Addressing the Anti-Terror Summit-2024 on Thursday, organized by the NIA, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the agency will soon come up with a national anti-terrorism policy.
In a statement on Friday, the NIA spokesperson said the conference concluded with consensus among various agencies and government officials and the police on the need for strengthened cooperative efforts supported by a common strategy to combat the threat of terrorism, especially regarding cybercrime and financial terrorism.
During the conference, which was marked by a series of discussion sessions, the spokesperson said, “there was a broad consensus that although the UAPA is a powerful legal tool to deal with terror, it must be used carefully and wisely to avoid possible misuse and ensure its effectiveness against terrorism.”
“The conference focused on the need for a unified way to deal with terrorism in all states with the aim of protecting the country. A consensus emerged during the hearings on the importance of a complete, comprehensive strategy that includes the entire national structure from the government down to the grassroots level of police operations and investigations,” said the spokesperson.
In his closing remarks, Mohan called for increased capacity building at the government level to combat terrorism. The NIA will conduct more capacity building sessions in the states, he said, adding that more campuses of the National Forensic Science University (NFSU) and CFSLs are also on the way.
“The Home Secretary spoke highly of the role of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) and the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Center (I4C) in dealing with financial and cyber-related crimes in a systematic and comprehensive manner. Based on the comments of the Minister of Home Affairs, he emphasized the need for all the police and investigative agencies and the forces to work together,” said the spokesperson.
“The case study session on terrorist investigation proved to be the most interesting event of the conference, most of the participants were keenly following the Rameshwaram shop blast narrative,” said the spokesperson.
