What The Black Cab about?

First, a quick recap of the key points. In The Black CabAnne and her boyfriend Patrick (Luke Norris) are kidnapped by a taxi driver named Ian (Nick Frost), who claims to have driven Anne before. After remembering that he picked her up from the hospital’s maternity ward and talked to her about her pregnancy on their last trip, Ian electrocutes Patrick with a mattress and zip ties.

Ian then takes them to Mabel Hill, an infamous road that he says is haunted by the ghost of a woman who lost a child before she died – a ghost that Anne herself keeps seeing glimpses of as they drive. But it’s not until the last act that we find out why Ian does this.

What happened at the end of the The Black Cab?

We learn that Ian has a wife and son of his own, but it’s clear that his mind is unstable. Although he changed his story several times, the final version revealed that he had thoughts of killing the boy as a way of punishing his wife for accusing him of cheating. Ian believes that these dark thoughts are what led him to be caught by this ghost he saw on the street; he thinks he wants a living child to make up for his loss.

So, Ian’s twisted plan to kidnap Anne, is to give her and her unborn child a ghost as a way to get her to leave him alone. The problem? As Anne finally reveals to Ian, she is no longer pregnant; she miscarried shortly after he gave her a lift back from the hospital.

After the news comes out Anne chases the ghost, accusing her of taking her child. Ian runs through the woods to get back to his dark cab. He gets in, drives away, and seems to hit Anne as he runs out into the street – but when he gets out and looks, no one is there. As he drives again we see a ghostly image of Anne sitting in the back seat of his cab.

What really happened to Anne in the end?

We have a lot to unpack, don’t we? The big question we are left with is when The Black Cab Well, it was over, it had something to do with Anne’s fate. Are you alive at the end of the movie, or dead? What happened to him?

Ultimately Anne’s fate is unclear, but the implication seems to be that she is dead at the end of the film. Maybe he fell in the woods while chasing a ghost, dying of complications related to Ian who he also drew earlier in the film? The cause of her death is unclear, but the fact that the road is empty after Ian seems to crash into her suggests that Anne is a ghost at this point – as does the final shot of her sitting in the back seat of her cab. as he drives.

Our best guess? Anne has replaced the ghost that haunts her and Ian throughout the film. The ghost lost a child, so she took Anne’s – and now that Anne is dead, as the curse is passed on, she is the one who will haunt Mabel Hill in search of what is lost.
