Lots of weapons, war-like stores seized in Mizoram, two arrested

A large cache of explosives and war-loving stores was seized in Mizoram during a major operation by the Assam Rifles and the state police, officials said on Thursday.

Two people were also arrested in connection with an operation aimed at illegal smuggling of dangerous substances into the region, officials said.

On being tipped off about a suspicious activity, the authorities conducted a special search operation near the Serchhip-Thenzawl route, where they found a vehicle carrying two suspects and a cache of ammunition.

A search of the vehicle revealed a cache of hidden explosives, including 9,600 gelatin sticks, 9,400 explosives and more than 1,800 meters of cordtex, a type of detonating wire.

Officials noted that the volume and nature of the items found raised serious concerns, suggesting the possibility of large-scale illegal or military activities in the region.

Two suspects were taken into custody on the spot, while the seized explosives were handed over to the Mizoram police for further investigation and legal action, they said.

Intelligence inputs indicated that the route was used for the clandestine movement of dangerous goods, with its remote and challenging location making surveillance difficult.
