Volkswagen said in a statement sent to FOX Business that it is recalling the vehicles “out of an abundance of caution.”

“The Takata SDI-D front airbags installed in the recalled vehicles do not pose a safety risk to the drivers of the affected vehicles,” the automaker said. “Based on its previous discussions with NHTSA, Volkswagen understands that the Agency is concerned that after an extended period of time, the airbag inflator may not function properly in the event of a crash.”
