Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin unveiled plans to set up a ₹126-crore jewelery industrial park in Coimbatore, responding to requests from Coimbatore Gold Jewelery Manufacturers and the Coimbatore Goldsmiths’ Association.
“Coimbatore, a key hub for the global gold jewelery industry, will see the establishment of this jewelery park in Kurichi with an investment of ₹126 crore. The park will have all essential facilities, including a NABL-approved testing lab, and is expected to generate direct employment for 2,000 people and indirect employment for 1,500,” he said.
Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Thanthai Periyar Library on Wednesday (November 6, 2024), which will be built at a cost of Rs 300 crore on an area of over 1,98,000 sq. ft. on the premises of the Coimbatore Jail in Gandhipuram. , Mr. Stalin said, “This library will be a resource for Coimbatore, providing a place of learning and knowledge for future generations of the city. It will be opened in January 2026,” he added.

Other projects
The Chief Minister also announced plans for a ₹300 crore multipurpose park and a ₹220 crore aerospace technology park. “Both a multi-modal logistics park and an aviation technology park are expected to be developed near Sulur,” he said.
“Furthermore, a new large IT park will be constructed on an area of 17.17 hectares near ELCOSEZ in Tidel Park, which will create employment opportunities for around 36,000 people and is expected to boost the economy and development of Coimbatore,” he said.
He also announced: “Avinashi Road flyover will be extended from Chinniyampalayam to Neelambur, covering a distance of five kilometers at an estimated cost of Rs 600 crore.”
“In order to reduce conflicts between people and wild animals due to the movement of elephants in the Thondamuthur area and to prevent damage to plants and loss of life, modern barriers to resist elephants will be installed at a distance of 10 kilometers at an estimated cost of R7 crore,” he said. added.
The Chief Minister also announced the development of an integrated drinking water project worth Rs 26 crore, benefiting 38 villages in Kottur, Vettaikaranpudur, Udaiyakulam town panchayats, and Anamalai panchayat union.
Additionally, he unveiled a project worth Rs 51 crore to provide integrated drinking water to 295 villages in Pollachi North, Pollachi South, and Kinathudadavu panchayat unions.
After his two-day visit to Coimbatore, the Chief Minister announced a special Rs 200 crore road maintenance project in the Coimbatore Corporation area.
