Stepping up her attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP), Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress leader and candidate for the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election, on Monday accused the BJP of “politicizing” the landslides that have hit the hill district. on July 30, it killed and displaced many civilians.
Starting his second day of election campaigning, he addressed a corner meeting in Kenichira at the Sultan Bathery Assembly area.
“Even a tragedy that has caused great pain to people has been politicized by the BJP. And that is where we start today. We are standing in a place where you have to think about your country, your needs, and the kind of politics you want in our nation,” said the Congress general secretary.
Speaking at the saffron event, Ms. Vadra said that the politics of the BJP, “spread across the country, is characterized by hatred, anger, division and destruction.” The real problems facing people are ignored, and their problems remain unresolved. Unemployment is very high and prices keep rising, with no signs of stopping, he added.
“Politics is not focused on solving these problems. “BJP’s politics is only meant to distract you from your problems, because its only aim is to stay in power, no matter how much it costs,” said Ms. Vadra.
He also accused the BJP-led central government of ‘failing’ to distribute the necessary funds to help families affected by the massive landslide.
“If you give me the opportunity to represent you in Parliament, I will show you that I can work harder than anyone else. I will air your problems everywhere. I will fight for it and put pressure on the Government and central government. You will have a strong fighter by your side who will not back down when your needs are at stake,” added Priyanka.
The Congress leader resumed his second phase of campaigning on Sunday, holding public meetings and polling corners along with his brother, Rahul Gandhi.
When she starts voting, Priyanka Gandhi will be in Kerala till November 7, according to her campaign plan. He plans to hold corner meetings at four additional places, in Kalpetta and Sultan Bathery assembly constituencies, on Monday.
The by-election for the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat is called for after Rahul Gandhi, who won the Lok Sabha polls from both Wayanad and Raebareli, decided to vacate the Wayanad seat.
