Former President Donald Trump, in his last campaign stop in North Carolina, announced that he would impose heavy tariffs on goods from Mexico if the country did not block the entry of immigrants into the US.
The event in Raleigh marks Trump’s final pitch to voters in North Carolina before Election Day — one of three locations scheduled for Monday.
“This is the end of the journey. But it will be the beginning of a new one. And that’s the one we wanted to participate in, which is the Make America Great Again program,” Trump told those who attended the event.
Trump has announced for the first time that, if elected, he will immediately impose a 25% tariff on everything coming from Mexico if the country does not stop the flow of immigrants and drugs flowing into the country.

“I will let him know [Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum] on the first day, or soon, that if they do not stop this attack of criminals and drugs entering our country, I will immediately impose a 25% tax on everything they send to the United States of America,” Trump said during the meeting.

“You’re the first ones I told that to. Congratulations, North Carolina,” he added. “And it has a 100% chance of working, because if that doesn’t work I’ll make it 50, and if that works I’ll make it 75 for tough guys, I’ll make it 100. “
Trump said Mexico is “snapping left and right” as one of the US’s biggest trading partners.

Trump also discussed his immigration plan and the southern border, saying “we want people to come to our country, but they have to come in legally.”
“I will invoke the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to target and dismantle all immigrant criminal organizations operating on American soil. And if they return to our country, it’s an automatic 10 years in prison and no parole,” he said. “And I hereby call for the death penalty for any immigrant who kills an American citizen or law enforcement officer. And I will immediately close all the shantytowns.”
The former president also highlighted the history of early voting in the state, after about 4.2 million North Carolinians voted before Election Day.

Data from the North Carolina Board of Elections show that ballots cast Friday showed more than 1.4 million early-registered Republicans compared to 1.35 million registered Democrats in the battleground state.
