Bhopal shopkeeper attacked: Man assaults saree seller by calling him uncle in front of wife

A shopkeeper in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal was beaten up by a customer for allegedly calling him ‘uncle’ in front of his wife.

According to the complaint filed with the police, Vishal Shastri, who owns a saree shop in Bhopal’s Jatkhedi area, alleged that he was beaten up by a customer and his friends at his place.

The suspect, identified as Rohit, had come to Vishal’s shop on Saturday with his wife to buy a saree for him. The couple examined a number of sarees for a long time but did not choose them.

The salesman Vishal then asked Rohit what kind of quantity of sarees he would like to buy. “Rs 1,000,” Rohit replied, adding that he could even afford a more expensive saree than that, warning Vishal not to underestimate his purchasing power.

Vishal then continued and said, “Uncle, I will show you sarees in other sizes too.”

This angered Rohit, who warned Vishal not to call him that again and a heated argument ensued.

Rohit left the shop with his wife. After a while, he returned to the store with a few men, dragged Vishal outside the store to the street and started beating him with sticks, belts and kicked him several times. The suspect then fled the area.

Vishal, who suffered a few injuries, reached the nearest police station and lodged a complaint against Rohit and his friends. He was sent for examination and treatment to a nearby hospital after that, said Superintendent of Police Manish Raj Singh Bhadauria.

A case has been registered against Rohit and his friends and all the accused will be arrested soon, said the police.
