But I’ve tried a few months of the most popular services, and these are the best I’ve found. Are Beauty Boxes Worth It?
I DID Beauty boxes are a great way to find new products, and often offer great value compared to buying items separately. You can’t put a price tag on the perfect dopamine rush of getting a gift in the mail every month. (Or maybe more literally, you can, but I still think it’s priceless.) Products that don’t work for you would make great gifts or donation items.
TAKE CARE: Some beauty boxes contain loads of environmentally unfriendly plastic bottles and tubes, which can be bulky and difficult to recycle. You’ll probably find products that aren’t right for your hair or skin type, or don’t work. Most beauty boxes don’t allow for any customization—what you get is really surprising.
I reached out to popular services and asked to test at least one month’s box but it should be three months. I compared the price of the included items to how much the box itself costs. I also scored the different types and possibilities for the average person to use—weighing the special products and the ones that would work for the general public. And yes, I put all these little ingredients on my actual face and hair and skin. Please stop asking me about the condition of my bathroom counter during this trying time.
Note that some brands offer one-off boxes that are available for purchase without a subscription. I have not tested this or considered it as part of the criteria for this guide.
