A boy was injured on Friday after a bomb-like device exploded near the house of a Trinamool Congress councilor in Kolkata, while another ‘bomb’ was found by locals a few meters away.
In the first incident, some boys were playing on the ground in Patuli area at a distance of 350 meters from the house of Trinamool Congress councilor Bappaditya Dasgupta. One of them picked up something that looked like a bomb, believing it to be a ball, and it exploded at the same time, injuring him.
The injured boy was rushed to Baghajatin State General Hospital and then transferred to MR Bangur Hospital for treatment. Police said the child was treated and released from the hospital.
A few hours after the incident, another bomb-like object was seen by locals near Mahasweta Devi Park in Patuli area, at a distance of 200 meters from the residence of the local councillor. The police reached the place after being alerted by the locals and the bomb squad defused the bomb.
Kolkata police recovered an unexploded ‘bomb’ and fragments of a bomb-like device and were investigating the device used. Police from the Patuli police station and the bomb disposal team were inspecting the locations where the ‘bombs’ were found.
Police sources told India Today TV that the fragments of the bomb-like material included caps, threads, gunpowder and black rubber-like material. An earlier investigation suggested that they looked like low-powered fireworks, which might have been created by mixing together various fireworks to be used on Diwali.
Investigation teams were also called to the place where the explosive exploded and two cases were registered in this matter, and the investigation was started, said police sources.
Cases have been registered against unknown persons under sections 288 (negligent handling of explosives), 126 (act to obstruct the movement of another), 115(2) (willfully causing hurt) and 54 (prosecutor present at the time of commission of offence) of Bharatiya. Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Mr. Bappaditya Dasgupta, a Trinamool councilor, who was not injured in the incident, said that he was not sure of the nature of the bombs and urged the police to be vigilant and vigilant in the area.
